Now that we have established the importance of the authentic Self, the question arises how do we get there? A couple of tools I wrote earlier are below.
- Identify any discrepancies you may have between your belief system and your actions
- Have faith in yourself that you are on the right track to exploring your Self
The role of the Pure mind plays a major part in achieving authenticity, and it is the most effective method when one understands what the mind and thoughts are and how to work with these thoughts, especially negative ones. Shivasankalpa-Sukta of Yajurveda (YV. 34.6) signifies the importance of being a good human being and the need for purification of the mind. It is compared to driving the chariot with the reins of fleet-foot horses. Similarly, the mind controls human beings. May this mind be moved by the right intentions and positive thoughts. Vedas emphasize the purity of mind, which is the basis of all behavior.
So, identify and understand your belief system and then be true to yourself about your actions according to your beliefs and see if there are any discrepancies. Once you have established that, you will have faith in yourself that you are on the right track. More next week about the Role of Pure mind and how critical it is to have peace and happiness in your life.
